For nearly a century, the name John H. Daniel has represented world-class custom tailoring in Knoxville and beyond. As custom tailors, we have created suits and tailored menswear for American presidents, five-star generals, professional athletes, television personalities, and accomplished individuals across the globe. Through every decade, our commitment has remained the same—exceptional fit, premium craftsmanship, and personal service. This tradition continues daily in our shop and showroom as we proudly provide a trusted custom clothing experience to each client we serve.
The Story Begins…
Our History
The John H. Daniel Company began in 1928 when John Hanna Daniel founded the business in Rome, Georgia. By 1932, after partnering with W.C. Bryan, the company moved to Jackson Avenue in Knoxville, Tennessee—marking the start of our long legacy as Knoxville tailors.
During World War II, W.C. Bryan served first in the U.S. Navy and later in the U.S. Marine Corps, flying F4U Corsairs in the Pacific theater. In 1968, his son, Richard Bryan, joined the company as a partner, helping guide the business into a new era of American tailoring.
In 1973, the company purchased Mayfield Clothing, and by 1984 it expanded again by beginning the American Clothing Company in Knoxville. By 1993, John H. Daniel started sourcing premium fabrics from Italy and England, strengthening our reputation for quality.
In 2005, we welcomed master tailors from Turkey—bringing new levels of craftsmanship to the garments we create. And in 2013, after decades on historic Jackson Avenue, John H. Daniel moved to our current location on Central Avenue, where we continue our tradition of custom clothing built on skill, service, and heritage.
